How to Change the Colors Quickly

We’re going to cover two ways to change colors in Adobe Illustrator. Both of these allow you to change each color everywhere it exists in your template with just a few clicks.

Option 1: Change Color Swatches

The first option is if you know exactly what color swatches you’d like to change. Refer to your Swatches Panel in your workspace. If you don’t already see it there, you can go to Window > Swatches.

From there, all swatches in this document have been prepared for you. Double-click the first mint green color swatch, which is the dominant color here.

Now, you’ll have a Swatch Option window pop up in the center of your workspace. Here, you can place your preferred color swatch and click Ok. Now, everywhere this color presents itself in the document will change to your new swatch, as shown below.

Now that you know how to change colors with a few clicks, you can repeat these steps for all other colors in this document.

Option 2: Recolor Artwork

Another option in changing colors is if you want to get creative with different color palettes by using Illustrator’s Recolor Artwork feature. First, start out by selecting all elements by using Command + A. From there, head to Edit > Edit Colors > Recolor Artwork.

This window pop-up will allow you to move your color palette around while the colors change in real-time within your document. You can also use the Color Theme Picker to extract and apply colors from any reference images or inspiration. It’s a useful tool if you want to use a color palette within some of your favorite photos, artworks, etc.

Once you’re set with your desired color palette, click outside of the box and your new colors will remain within your template.

How to Edit, Change, and Add New Text

If you’d like to further customize your planner, changing the text can make your planner feel like it was designed specifically for you.

In order to edit any text within your planner, you can click once using your Selection Tool, which will allow you to change anything within your Character window (font size, font style, font spacing, etc.). To change the text itself, you can double-click on the text and start writing your own text.

Be sure to align your text when you’re finished so it stays centered. You can do this by first selecting your text, then go to your Align window > select Horizontal Align Center.

To add new text on top of your document, use the Type Tool (shortcut T). You can use this to fill in your empty spaces with your personalized text.

How to Move Sections Around

These planner pages are easily organized into separate layers to allow you to move sections around quickly. For this example, we’re going to work on the last Monthly Planner page. I’m going to show you how to move the Monthly Intentions section above the Calendar section.

First, let’s head to our Layers Panel. If you don’t have this in workspace already, go to Windows > Layers (or F7). From there, we’ll go to Page 3 > Calendar layer. To select the entire layer, click the triangle on the right-hand corner. Once selected, you’ll see all elements of the layer highlighted in tan on both the document and layers within the panel.

Now, you can move it down to where the Monthly Intentions box is. Click + drag down + while holding Shift to keep this aligned.

From there, we’re going to do the exact same thing with the Monthly Intentions box. Move it to the top to replace where the calendar was.

Using the Layers panel allows you to quickly move your sections around to the exact position you want them. Feel free to do this throughout these pages to get your perfect planner design exactly how you want it.

Using Create to Personalize Your Planners

If you don’t have Adobe Illustrator and still want to customize your templates, here’s another great alternative. Let’s begin by heading straight into Create. We’ll start by sizing our workspace.

Under the Print Sizes section, you find an 11 x 8.5 option. Click to open.

In Create, search under Print Sizes for the 11 x 8.5 option.

Now, let’s upload our PNG file by selecting Images > Upload. Go ahead and upload all three planner PNG files so you have them ready. You can also name your design in the upper-left-hand corner of the tool.

For this example, we’re going to work with the Daily Planner. Once it’s uploaded, click to add it onto your workspace. It should open to fit the canvas. If it doesn’t, you can resize it by clicking and dragging a corner to fill the entire white space.

Now, we can start adding our own text by using the Text tool. From there, add whatever text you’d like—from Create’s unique fonts or text layout options. I chose Poppins using size 80.

To add more text, simply click Text > Add text again. You can duplicate a layer in an instant with a quick right-click > Duplicate layer. Drag-and-drop to place. You can use this text to add today’s date, fill in your priorities, and to-do list.

Once you’re finished, you can Download your finished planner with the button in the upper-right-hand corner. Select your preferred file format, then click Download again. Print from desktop or upload to social.

Whichever way you choose to use these templates, you’re on your way to creating an essential tool that’ll help you stay organized and productive.

Day planners aren’t just fun to customize, but they’re necessary! Wouldn’t you respond better to a nice and neat design than a plain old pen and legal pad? Same! The choice is yours. Hop into Create and get designing.

Good luck!
